hello, wanderer

We make software that wanders off the beaten path.

Apps and a board game for speech, play, wellbeing and Japan.

Errant Software is a tiny family studio. We build speech therapy tools, a pretend-play world for kids, a gentle body-signals app, a Japan trip planner, and a board game about Japan's hidden Christians. Each one is its own little world. Scroll to visit them.

Start the journey

Errant (adj.): wandering in search of adventure.

That's us. Two people, one kitchen table and a lot of half-finished sketches. Half our apps grew out of the speech therapy room. The other half grew out of things we love: Japan, board games, and brains that work a little differently.

World one · the quilt

The Patchwork family

Three tools for speech and language, stitched together by Patchy the chameleon. Built by a speech-language pathologist, for kids, families and the clinicians who work with them.

Patchwork Moments: “Yes!”

Communication that fits the person, not the box.

Not every AAC user connects with the same screen. Patchwork gives families four ways in, and everything stays editable:

  • Quilt the everyday board, colored by each word's job
  • Motion words placed wherever they're easiest to reach
  • Stitch spell anything, with favorite words one tap away
  • Moments say it with a familiar face and voice

Patchwork Thread

Language analysis and progress tracking, for clinicians.

Thread will pull together language samples, analysis and goals so you can see each client's progress as one continuous line, and spend less of your evening on paperwork.

  • Language samples
  • Progress over time
  • Clinician-facing

World two · the town

Wimble's World

A child-led pretend-play world that grows language, designed especially with autistic kids in mind. Make your own Wimble, then explore the house, the park, the library and the town, with a narrator who models words for everything you do.

Ten ears, ten eyes, ten smiles, ten colors. This is the first thing kids do in the app.

World five · after dark

KakureCross of Kyushu

Kakure means hidden. In this board game, set in Edo-period Kyushu, you build villages, trade rice, silk, timber, clay and iron, and keep a faith alive as Japan's Christian communities are driven underground. Build your church in the open, or hide it from the magistrate.
